Meeting language: English.
Occupational exposure to substances continues to cause significant illness and premature death. The figure of “3,000 deaths per year due to worker exposure to substances in The Netherlands” has been circulating since 2005, based on research by the FNV, the RIVM, and the NCvB. Research has continued abroad and internally within the RIVM, and the Dutch centre of expertise Lexces also has an assignment in this area. Many years have now passed, so where we are now? Questions that will be addressed in this meeting include:
- Have we made any progress in 20 years?
- Is it already possible to estimate the incidence of occupational diseases for more substances or substance groups? (and not just cancer).
- How reliable are these estimates?
- Will the estimates ever make it possible to identify trends?
